Performing Bands

Beginning Band

This class is for students with limited or no previous experience on a Woodwind, Brass, or Percussion instrument. Instruction is geared to provide students with basic rhythmic skills, note reading competency, fingerings and characteristic tone production. It is open to all grade levels and is a year-long class. Attendance at rehearsals and performances is required.

Concert Band

The Concert Band is open to students with one or more years of experience. Often these are graduates of Beginning Band as well as students continuing to work on mastering basic skills on their instruments. Selection to this group is made at the end of the previous year through a strict teacher selection process. Instruction on woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments emphasizes development of advanced performance techniques, scales, rhythms, notation, terminology, stylistic interpretation and historical significance. This group is open to all grade levels. Attendance at rehearsals and performances is required.

Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble is the advanced performance group at Aviara Oaks Middle School. Students are selected with the permission of the instructor, or by audition. This group stresses the continued development of technique, musicianship and advanced performance practices. The Wind Ensemble represents the Instrumental Music Program at school and community functions. Students are expected to display a high degree of responsibility in all of their class work in order to participate in these special activities. Attendance at rehearsals and performances is required.

Jazz Band

WEDNESDAYS 2:30-3:15pm

Jazz Band is held weekly in the Band Room with our coaches, Mr. David Montoya and Mr. Ryan Mohammadpour! We are looking for any and all students (with one year of experience) interested in learning the subtle art of improvisation on their instrument, or typical jazz instruments (including guitar, string bass or electric bass, piano, and drumset). Encourage your student to attend so we can include as many students as possible!
